How Did We Get Here?
How did we get here?
What brought us to selling grooming supplies online?
Small Business Saturday is here, and we are so glad to be a part of this community! If you have been with us a while, you may know - but for those of you who don't, here is a little back story of how Craft Pomade came to be:
With an aspiration to open a classic barbershop, Michael spent years working towards his goal. Using our small nest egg, we decided to pull the trigger on a business investment rather than a family home, and in March of 2014 we opened the doors to our first Barbershop location.
Within months we had gone from 2 employees to 6, training many from the ground up. In 2016 we were proud to have both Michael's brothers working along side him as barbers, and their loyal bond helped us expand from 1 location to 3, the beginnings of a product line, a barber supply, and a very small (and slow) online store; shop.historybarbershop.com.
As many of us experienced in March of 2020, just days after our 6 year anniversary, we we're thrown for a loop. Worried about the health and wellness of our staff & their families, and how they, and their jobs, would sustain, Michael and I heading up to the Barbershops with storage totes, and took every article of retail off the shelves and the walls, and brought it home to our basement.
Within days we had +1,000 SKUs on our website, we activated our google account, and started reaching out to friends and family to help spread the word of our online store.
What feels like from that moment on, I have been behind this laptop, adding products, expanding our range, curating collections, chatting with you, and praying this thing would work out.
Now, what isn't listed here is all that determination, hardships, joy, and unwavering support - and please note, we have had many (oh, very many) highs and lows. But one of the biggest joys in this business is who surround us.
Since working behind this website, we kept all 3 locations alive during a 290 day lockdown. Every single one of our employees kept their job, and their pay, and best of all, we were able to hire new roles within our warehouse - to include my best friend, Jen, my mom, Anita, and my sister, Kim!
-- Now if that isn't the makings of a Family Business, I don't know what is.
So, Thank you for being here! Thank you for your endless support, kind words, and helpful reviews. When you support our online store, you are supporting a family, our barbers, and the communities we live in. |
